New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has put a ban on the use of Artificial Intelligence-based ChatGPT besides the Mobile and other electronic items in the upcoming class 10, 12 board exams, officials said on Tuesday. According to the board officials, the use of ChatGPT will amount to using unfair means in the exams. The Class 10 and Class 12 exams start from Wednesday, February 15 and will go on till April 5 this year, stated an official release from CBSE. Around 38, 83,710 students will appear in these examinations. CBSE has circulated detailed guidelines to all the stakeholders to ensure that the students are appearing in the examinations without any stress.

According to the latest instructions issued by the board ahead of the examinations, "Mobile, ChatGPT and other electronic items will not be allowed in examination hall." "Students are not allowed to carry any electronic devices inside the exam centre. This includes using device to access ChatGPT so that unfair means is not used," a senior board official said. Students at their institutes are banned from using the chatbot for academic assignments such as exams, labs and home works. Launched by Microsoft-back AI research firm, OpenAI in November 2022, ChatGPT is a language processing AI model that is capable of generating human-like text and uses a reinforcement learning method.
